@ hjyx: I haven't seen you around, so welcome! :D Anyway, I've played Gaia and it is big, but I think there was a larger one...And I've never played Frozen mountain 2 (or 1, for that matter).

I havene't play KG's level now.

but when I open the FM2 with editor it give me that impression it is so huge

of course the lanterning design is somehow like the boss design

Screens which use same tileset still can be count as an unique. Screens which are full of shifts and are used for boss fights can't be count as unique - that's how I think.

It seems that the largest unique level is Gaia

Unique is ment as what the player sees. When a shift moves to a similar screen (same screen but a change), its considered the same. If you teleport elsewhere (like going inside a building, or using a teleporting device, then its considered a unique screen.

To do that you'll have to beat BSoaKFF... I say this because the first town alone, which is also the one you start out in and is your hometown, has 108 screens in it. It's also the smallest town in the game. Plus, the cities will be ten times bigger then any small town, therefore 100 x 10... you can expect every metropolis to be over 1000 screens in itself.

Also, I believe KG has a new level he is making, which is also massive in size.

Colors isn't actually that big. It may have many screens, but there are multiple copies of basically every location in the game.

I'd like to point out that Gaia has multiple versions of some screens, too.

Spoiler: Probably spoilers here. (click to show/hide)

For example, there's two versions of that ancient battle dealy outside that castle; in that black area, you can go back in time to before when the polluting machine was built; in the area by Elder (the name of which TEMPORARILY ESCAPES ME), the entire area has an at-night copy; then, of course, there's an enormous chunk of the landscape copied for an in-the-future version; and then a few odd screens here and there that get substituted in when the proper conditions are fulfilled.

Also, there are some screens which are just a gradient and music to stop the player from reaching a void; these can't be counted as unique screens. Then, of course, many (most?) of the other sky screens are copied to save the effort of making dozens of unique screens the player probably won't ever see.

Even without counting the copies, of course, Gaia is still a very large level.

Perhaps, but they were both clearly made by copying existing screens- in some places, the copies just use a recolored alternate version of a tileset; in others they were apparently flipped to another tileset with the most important tiles (ground, typically) in the same location as the original tileset, and then tweaked; and in others, there are only minor differences, with no tileset alteration at all.

How about judging a levels size from the play area as the player perceives it? (if that makes any sense at all)
That means two copies of a screen still only count as one, as long as the player is intended to think its the same place.
Take colors as an example. There are multiple versions of every area in the level, but the player is intended to think the whole thing is just one single island.

hellooo everyone :) i'm a newly found Knytt lover so i don't know too much about wuts on the forum... and i wasn't sure whether to ask this here or in the "latest version of gaia" thread but since we're talking about size i thought i'd ask here...

does anyone know exactly/roughly how many endings gaia has?

i have this thing about NOT experiencing all the endings to a level and i couldn't stand it if i missed one hahaha

I'm suprised nobody mentioned Room ov Death by the evil ducky guy Klamrisk. It only has about 6 playable screens, but it has a lot of transition screens (254 screens total, I think).

Well, Im not gonna tell you what it is, but the level Im making is gonna be pretty big... No-where near as big as BSoKFF or Teenimifogal or whatever it's spelt ( XD), but still pretty big (around 300 screenish mark)

Most of us are only counting unique, playable screens. Shift animations don't count. (Room ov Death still rocks though.)

Since this seems to be "who's planning the biggest level" night, I would like to add that my bigger project, Falling Water, will probably be between 300 and 500 screens. The first part, which is about a qarter of the level-as-planned, is 107 unique, playable screens. (If I didn't miscount.)

I'm gonna go and shamelessly plug my level Outer Reaches (http://nifflas.ni2.se/forum/index.php?topic=1327), which has ~335 or so unique screens. Not really the largest level, I guess, but it's pretty darn big, if I do say so myself. :)

my upcoming level (see sig for link) will have at least 200 player-viewed unique screens, including secrets (which are fairly small and there are six of them). not including the 3 (perceived) screens for the boss.
