Knytt Underground doesn't save immediately when you activate a new checkpoint, so if your Wii U freezes (which it shouldn't), there's a chance it won't have saved your game.
If you want to make sure the game is saved before your Wii U freezes, exit the game or power down your Wii U. That will ensure that the game is saved.

Also, send your Wii U to repair. They're not meant to freeze. ;)

You really just extract the contents somewhere (you can use a GUI file archiver) and double-click "run.sh", then select to run it.
Unfortunately, I didn't get any time to make an installer on Linux. Generally, game developers just archive up the executable + data in a tar.gz and bundle an .sh with it on Linux, so it's pretty standard practice.
Let me know if you have trouble running it though!

I just think (a good port of) Knytt Underground feels better on a console, especially a Nintendo one.

Could you make sure your GPU drivers are up to date? It seems like this may be an issue specific to AMD HD GPUs.

Could be either RAM problems or not having a pagefile, etc.
Memory usage was decreased in the latest build on Steam - what are you running on now?

EDIT: Ah, didn't read the post through properly. I wonder if the issue is your machine or with the game.
How much GPU RAM do you have? That could be the culprit in case you're limited in that regard.

In time for Christmas. Awesome! I'll probably get a Wii U for Christmas, so I might be able to pick up the Wii U version too.

Will it be possible to have the map or inventory displayed on the gamepad while playing on the TV?

The Wii U version can be either played in 'mirror' mode (with main display on both the Gamepad and TV screen) or a mode where the map and inventory are displayed on the Gamepad.
So to answer your question: yes :)

The engine requires the following OpenGL extensions to work:
- GL_EXT_framebuffer_object
- GL_ARB_vertex_shader
- GL_ARB_fragment_shader
- GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two

Some very old GPUs don't support these extensions, but they're practically available on all GPUs nowadays.

Ah yeah, I'm working on it as we speak! Consoles are a very different beast compared to the desktop platforms, but it's coming along nicely.
Like Nifflas said, it will resemble the desktop versions a lot more than the PS3/Vita versions, using (approximately) the same engine.

It appears to be a bug in GLFW 2.7. Sent the crash details to the authors of GLFW, hopefully they will know what's up.

Hey again! I think I found the problem, and the solution is really obscure - it's definitely an Intel driver bug, but at least this fixes it.

Download this: http://mp2.dk/shaderfix.zip
Extract the 'Data' folder to your 'Knytt Underground' directory, and make sure the shader files are overwritten.

If the problem persists, please tell me - I'm keen to get the bugs fixed. Thanks!

I switched to an older driver to test this, and I was able to reproduce it. It's almost definitely a bug in the Intel driver and their GLSL support. I'd highly advise you to upgrade to the newest non-OEM Intel drivers if you're having problems, as this will be tricky to work around otherwise.
