NightSky / NightSky: New Hemispheres is now released! [Full-game Mod]
« on: February 27, 2016, 09:33:15 »
Welcome to NightSky: New Hemispheres, the biggest and best NightSky mod. It is also the only NightSky mod, as far as I know.

EDIT: Video Trailer for the mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUrRmuN8awk

So what is it? NightSky:NS is 140 new levels, completely replacing Normal Mode (and the credits, The Beach, and The City). Some levels have only small changes, some have new variations on their gimmicks, but many are completely new ideas.
This Mod started more than a year ago when I found out about the level editor for NightSky. I messed around with it a bit, and eventually made a new world replacing Ranna Caverns (posted here several months ago). Since then, I have worked on and off creating a completely new set of levels for your enjoyment. I gradually improved in level-making ability and learned a lot of peculiarities of the game engine along the way. I hope to make a video about how to use the level editor to its full effectiveness soon.
Anyway, the mod files are here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/629bw17yz2y152u/NightSky+New+Hemispheres.zip
Unzip the file and merge the new files with the NightSky base game. The readme file has more info about installing, and the mod in general.

Features:
139 new level designs plus the last level of the credits that’s pretty much the same
Several new vehicle designs of questionable maneuverability
A new introduction cutscene
Many new objects to push, swing on, or collide with
Some new ambient and roll sounds
3x the domino levels of the original game
3x the falling boulder levels too
Mostly astronomically accurate southern constellations!
13 certified DANK meme levels replacing Slightly Nonsense

Are you in to speedruns? Several members of the NightSky speedrun community are planning to do a blind race soon, which should be a good watch. (They have never seen the mod levels before, except my older Ranna Caverns mod and a couple levels I needed playtesting for)

I hope you enjoy playing this mod!

These boards have some clearly-defined spaces for FiNCK and Knytt levels editing and discussion, but nothing for NightSky. Since Nifflas put up the level editor almost 3 years ago, not much seems to have been done with it.

I'd like to change that! Since I found out about the level editor at the end of last year, I have been working on making a new NightSky adventure. Out of the 140 levels of making the whole game over, i've finished quite a few (haven't counted recently, but around 70 IIRC) For a while now, I've had one set of levels (Ranna Caverns) finished and will link to it at the bottom of the post.

But anyway, I also have some questions.

First, Why should I post anything about a NightSky mod? Like I said, there isn't a board for it.

Second, are there any guidelines for what should not be in a mod? I have some crazy ideas that could be loosely described as "I don't think that's Fair Use". If there are certain things that aren't wanted, I'll still use them but make a "clean" version to post here.
To be clear, I'm talking about use of copyrighted images/sounds/music, not [NSFW] stuff.

Third, have there been other mods made that I couldn't find with the search function here?

Cheers!

Read the readme please for "install" instructions. (you replace the existing files I changed, basically)

EDIT: I've been working on modding Normal Mode exclusively, this won't change any Alternative levels, so don't be surprised when they aren't changed.

Edit2: I've been using mainly HD resources for this. The files above have no SD resources, though the final version should have SD compatibility. Some stuff does not scale up/down well though.
