Creativity Support / Re: Easier way to make this kind of animation?
« on: September 04, 2015, 09:19:22 »
I know this is probably really easy with software for 3D animation like Blender, but those are usually a bit complicated. Should I just keep using Photoshop or is there a tool that could help me?

From personal experience, Photoshop is really ill-suited for this kind of work. The alternative doesn't have to be real 3D software though. Ages ago I've dabbled into Anime Studio, a kind of cartoon animation software, and it was fairly easy to make fluid pseudo-3D motion with it. Now, I wouldn't recommend paying fifty bucks for just a single job, but freeware in this category could probably be worth looking into.

Forum Games / Re: Could you do me a favour?
« on: September 04, 2015, 08:49:36 »
I would, but I'm incredibly camera-shy, ever since that Interpol crime-reenactment broadcast on national TV.

Could you do me a favor and distribute my recruitment posters around schools in your area?

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately I can't devote much time to this right now, as my workload for the month just doubled. The changes made earlier are all undone now, reset back to the original condition. Sorry Ego, I'm afraid you'll have to contend with the faulty spoilers on Chrome a little longer!

You are right that removing this would fix the issue, but this code is present in all themes' CSS, so it's probably not the culprit. I'd be hesitant to remove it from all, since that could introduce issues elsewhere on the site. (EDIT: However, I've commented this part out of the code in the WADF and FINCK themes' CSS. If there is any undesired side-effect, we need to find another solution.)

On a side note: It's not Christmas time SaimJai!
Heh... living near the equator, I find the sight of snow and winter refreshing! :)

Could it be the theme you're using? I have the exact same version (+OS), and I've yet to encounter this issue viewing the forum with Chrome and the Xmas theme.

Affordable Space Adventures / Re: Release date set!
« on: March 18, 2015, 04:45:11 »
Looks like it'll be another fine Nifflas game. :) I like the comical approach of the ads, and I wonder how much of this feel will be present in the game itself.

It's worth reading the reviews featured on the site, some show quite recent (10-11 days ago) impressions and screens.

And yet, the irony doesn't escape me that the game titled "Affordable" will be one of the least affordable adventures that Nifflas has ever produced. But that's just the sour grapes speaking.  X)

Yep, finally!  C)p

Nifflas' commentary makes the playthrough a lot more interesting.

EDIT: it's over! Midboss finished the run in just under 20 minutes, instead of the estimated 22. You were cool, Nifflas! Happy Birthday! ^^

So it's 12.50 PM at my place now, and a different game is going on. According to the schedule, WADF was moved to 1:48PM.

9
The times are converted to your local time, which I guess for you is UTC + 7, or EST + 12, that's why it's PM for you. By the way, I always get confused by the 12AM/PM notation; I just can't get used to it

Thanks AA! Somehow I missed the huge title on top of the page "All times below converted to your local time" and I did another conversion on top of that. X)   1PM on Tuesday looks reasonable, but it might be a bit problematic to watch videos during worktime. Oh well!

Good to know - thanks for the news! :)

It's a little confusing though, since in the schedule, the WADF event is listed at 12:50 PM EST. It's 10 to 13:00, right?

About Nifflas' Website and Forum / New Nifflas game: 7 Meditations
« on: December 03, 2014, 03:43:01 »
Nifflas released a game yesterday; it's a fly-through-targets game called "7 Meditations" (see a pattern here?), and it's part of the 2014 Advent of Indies project. Nifflas' game was released on the 2nd day in this advent series.

Creativity Support / Re: Piano music videos - your feedback, please!
« on: October 01, 2014, 17:07:19 »
Thanks for the feedback, LPChip! :)

I thought that before answering, I'd record some videos using your advice and see how it goes, but I've been on the road too much for the last couple months, so I've yet to test your ideas out. (There is going to be a Muslim holiday next Monday, so I'll try to get something together on the long weekend and post it here).

Yeah, it's Camtasia. :) It's intuitive yet capable, I love it! Very handy when I do videos for work, where deadlines are usually too tight to waste time fiddling with settings.

Good point about the pan and zoom effect degrading graphics quality. It was supposed to imitate the smooth sweeping camera motions that some pro youtubers use, but obviously it's a whole different ballpark.  X-P

Resolution-wise, I could do 1080p max, but it would increase the rendering/uploading time a lot, and I wasn't sure it was worth the effort. On the viewer side: here in Thailand, 480p loads smoothly, but on higher settings, loading can sometimes be a bit iffy.

For gameplay footage, I'd avoid adding any gratuitously, but I thought it could be useful for enhancing the mood while playing music - or for hiding some unsightly parts of the recording.

Creativity Support / Piano music videos - your feedback, please!
« on: July 29, 2014, 16:59:46 »
Nifforum veterans might remember the "guess the music" game we've played here a while ago. :) I've posted videos of playing game tunes, and members had to guess the title.

Since then, I got some new gear and I'm working on a new video technique. I want to make it really good, and that's why I'd like to get your feedback: what works for you guys, and what could be improved? Some specifics of what I'm after:

  • 1. How is the sound quality?
  • 2. How is the picture quality?
  • 3. What angle shots would you prefer?
  • 4. What resolution do you usually watch videos? (HD/480p/default YT settings etc.)
  • 5. What do you think about adding occasional gameplay footage during some part of the music?

So far I've uploaded two tunes with the new technique:

Spoiler: I like Chopin (Gazebo) (click to show/hide)

Thanks for helping out!  C)

Is the list at nifflas.ni2.se complete?

AFAIK it is, with the exception of Knytt Experiment, which you can read about here.

For an all-inclusive list of Nifflas' games, I'd recommend checking out our Completed Games forum.
