Woah, sure am happy to get so much response in the first day or two.
Just going to respond to everything where I can.

Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

Anyways, that's enough developer's commentary for this.
Feel free to inform me of any wallswims and voids by the way!

So, ehm. Welp. This sure has been a while.

When I first came to these forums I was still a grade schooler, or perhaps I'd just started middle school. I don't even remember, but when cleaning up stuff I realised I still had some leftover levels that.. I could actually still be proud of. This project was made somewhere between 2012 and 2013, and while it was never really finished in my head, I've decided to release it as-is, because I really loved making it and I'm very curious if people would still enjoy this. It's more on the environmental side of things, but there's difficulty in there so I'll just keep it around Normal/Hard I suppose. For the completionists, there's a total of 3 endings, and (if I remember correctly) 2 secrets to be found.

So, ehm, yeah. I'll just leave some screenshots here.

*Aaand apparently I can't leave the level here, so I'll just leave it here in a link. Sorry guys, it's sure been a while.

Level!

I really like the blue, Buddhist temple-like environment. It has really eerie music and just feels more spacey than anywhere else underground.
Weird, because usually I prefer labyrinthic environments in Knytt games. Huh.

It seems to be working fine! I've already completed three of the new challenges, which were amazing. You've really outdone yourself creating a game like this with so many gameplay possibilities (although some are really frustrating.)

I just remembered having used that Fungus tileset for one of my earlier levels, so here you go:
I also have the Rough Sea Landscape and the Hanseatic Town tilesets, though I'm not sure whether you already have those or not.

Edit*: Oh, and another tileset from a level by Frerik. I'm not sure whether it was meant for private use, though...

I wonder, is it possible to do it with only the green powerups? I was never able to make it.

For a desert-type tileset, it seems kind of square-ish. Perhaps some more rounded tiles would be nice.

The technique I used for such things was basically:

- Approach from the left, then jump and change into a ball
- Keep holding the right button, which helps you slowly move up the slope and gain some momentum
- When you feel you're high enough, quickly switch from the right to the left arrow key just after you've hit the slope.

If done correctly, this should launch you far enough, I think.

I understand what you're going for. To be honest, I hadn't really thought it would fit a game like Knytt Stories; after all, the original music wasn't really music in that sense, it always felt more experimental. I doubt I'll be able to reach that level of composing anytime soon, so unfortunately I won't be of much help I don't think. Of course, I'm still available for play-testing, and I cannot account for anything that happens in the future,.

AA: Well, that would be a logical conclusion, but I don't know whether you can just put it like that.
It seems fairly obvious that if an LP of a game is horrible, the watcher will most likely not feel enclined to play it.
However, there are probably a lot more reasons that people watch LP's than just wanting to see the LP so they don't have to buy the game.
For me, a great deal of watching LP's is because they show games I will most likely never play in my whole life, because a: I don't like playing that specific type of game or b: I don't own the console the game is for.

Along with the reasons that people watch LP's in the first place, there's also different things they expect from the LP's that they watch.
Some people like to watch tool-assisted runs, others like 'real LP's' with people talking over the game. There's people who like awesome players, and there's people who just enjoy schadenfreude and love to see people fail. I think it would be difficult, not to say impossible to make such a statement as you did.

Whew, seems like I overdid this a bit. Please don't feel like I'm trying to attack you or anything.

I surprised major game companies don't pay people to LP their games, it's the best form of advertising for games.

Why bother paying someone when there's gamers doing it for free?  :^^:

Because people get annoyed when they're watching an LP and while they have already realized the solution the LP'er still needs half an hour to figure it out? Or perhaps because they want to play for themselves, make their own decisions.

Saying this, well, there will be people who decide not to buy it because of this. Whether the amount of people that do buy it after watching an LP is larger than the former number, in other words, if there is a profit in the amount of people buying the game, I cannot say.

Agreed. While there is the chance that if we wait, it'll take much longer because people tend to take hiatuses from these projects (believe me, I know the feeling), I'd hate it if everything was done except for one single amazing thing.

Well, that's what you get when you take a hiatus of about six months on a project.
It's not like I haven't been working on it at all, but it was more like one or two screens per week, and nothing that interesting.
However, that doesn't mean this project is dead! I'm still working on this, and the hiatus ends here!
Since I won't have school for at least another week, I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Well, for now, I'll leave you this screenshot as an apology.

I can't say for sure what kind of music I usually make, since it's quite varied. The easiest way would probably be my Souncloud page, since I've been updating that a lot lately: Here
Most of my songs are in fact pretty short. I don't have much on there as of guitar and similar things, but I think I have some songs that I never did upload there that might fit.

Either way, just take a look there and we'll say where it ends up.
