Knytt Stories / Challenges
« on: August 05, 2014, 00:11:15 »
The purpose of this topic is to set and discuss various challenges for KS levels. A challenge might, for example, be to beat a certain level or level segment in the shortest time possible, or to do so in some specified way, such as without dying. Hopefully some people other than me will be interested!

Challenges should clearly state the level name, the difficulty and the challenge, all in bold. (try to guess the difficulty as best you can; the level description should be a good guide.) They should also include a link to a source of (the latest version of) the level, which probably means the levels archive or the appropriate topic of the KS Level Releases board. (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?board=39.0) By default, it is assumed that a challenge should be completed without using tools or the built-in cheat function.

Claims of completion should clearly state the challenge completed. If you are claiming a record time, please put it in bold and be as precise as you can. If you have a relevant video, please post it on some reputable hosting site (such as Youtube) and provide a link. If you used tools or the built-in cheat mode, say so in bold.

General discussion of challenges is welcome, especially discussion of the bits that seem hardest. Guides and suggestions would be welcome! If the level has a strong plot, please use spolier tags clearly stating that they are hiding plot details.

If this proves popular I may create a list of the challenges and any records. I may even keep it up to date!

I'll start us off. Here are some Lunatic challenges:

Beat Learning to Jump (http://knyttlevels.com/) in under seven minutes.

Beat the Apocalypse Trail from Exquisite Knorpse 2 (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=2202.0) without using the hologram. (This challenge requires reaching the endgame of a long Lunatic level, but the level is well worth playing anyway.)

Beat Monochrome Jumping (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1206.0) as fast as you can and give the time it took you.

Here are some Very Lunatic challenges:

Also for Learning to Jump, beat it without dying. I'd love to see a good speedrun, even if it's tool-assisted.

Also for Exquisite Knorpse 2, beat Death (the eyes and fireballs boss at the end of the Trail) without cheating. (I've put a guide in the relevant topic.) Again, I'd very much like to see a video, even if it's tool-assisted.

Also for Monochrome Jumping, beat it without dying. (This might be merely Lunatic.)

Get as far as you can in Going Left (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1259.0). For preference, provide a video or guide. I consider this the hardest level I've ever played, so a complete video playthrough would be much appreciated.

Knytt Stories / The Cube series

Has anyone beaten the Cube series by TheRealTJ? They're pretty good and highly original puzzle levels, but I'm stuck in 2, 4 and 6.

Knytt Stories / The Life Ruby

I just finished this level on hard mode. It was amazing; this level easily makes my top five. I strongly encourage EVERYONE to play it. It has a solid plot, great design, great gameplay and tonnes of secrets. It doesn't just have many secret screens, it has three whole secret areas. Several items can only be acquired by finding secrets, and getting the good ending requires finding almost all of the secrets. I think the good ending can be reached in one playthrough, but fortunately, RangerX provided a warp zone to make it easier to get the good ending after having seen the bad one.

The hard mode is definitely Lunatic in its last portions, but there's an easy (or more precisely, "Weaksauce") mode for those not up to it. I found all of the challenges to be completely fair and doable; it's much more about skillful execution of devised strategies than about superhuman reaction times and there are only about three tricky jumps in the whole game (all optional).

I repeat, this level is fantastic and you should play it right now.
