Title: [Normal] Robot Garden
Post by: yohji on April 07, 2009, 13:27:56
Hello,

this is my first level. You explore a long dead world of robots, where the secrets of life and death are hidden. The world is small, and the challenges aren't much, so I guess it should be classified as a short environmental level. You can die here though, if you're not careful enough.

There's a little bit of custom music in here, composed by me. The .ogg files are credited to "Jashiin (Yohji)" because Jashiin is a nickname I use elsewhere, mostly for music.

A screenshot is attached.

upd: Oh, and there's a secret screen. Its not really hidden, just, um, out of sight.

Great story line, and very good for a first map :)

Although its a decent level, this is definitely not environmental if there are things that kill you besides the water, more like challenge, though it was more normal than easy

Thanks for the comments!

Um, I thought that if a difficulty level is given along with "Environmental", it simply means that there's, I don't know, some emphasis on mood? Well, for instance, the topic for StaticRomantic's "Sahara" has "environmental" in the title, even though there are goals and challenges. Anyway, if others think this is a problem, I'll be happy to modify the topic and/or the .ini file in whatever way necessary.

Basically the idea behind environmental was that the level has its focus on scenery, sorta like the original Knytt game had. Meaning that players who want to just run (or walk X)) around in beautiful (or eery or whatever, but in any case polished) landscape, without being bothered by difficult jumps or enemies, can look for [environmental] levels and get what they want like descibed.
One can generally assume that EVERY level author puts effort on delivering a "pretty", polished level, so assigning the label would soon lose its meaning.
BUT! Seeing that this board is temporary anyways and there are no definite rules for posting levels, I guess you can just do whatever you feel like (as long as you still meet the general forum rules of course X)).

Although personally, after playing, I'd also say it's more a challenge than an environmental. :)

Great thinking, I kind of accidentally ignored that  Could you rename the topic to "[Normal] Robot Garden", then? (I'm not sure if modifying my initial post's subject would do it..?)

One of the screens had invisible instant death tiles which were not supposed to be there. Here's a fixed version. I guess since noone noticed, the change isn't crucial. It just makes things a little bit more logical.

Thanks!

I must say I kind of don't like the level much anymore, only the story and the secret screen with the sad music... When I first made it I thought it'd be a good challenge. And then I realized that Juni can use her umbrella to protect herself against the projectiles, and it sort of ruined the challenge. Oh well.
