Fullscreen or small?
« on: September 14, 2009, 15:08:26 »
I just had this sudden fit of curiosity: do you prefer to play KS in fullscreen mode, or in window mode? Me, I find I don't have a fixed preference. It depends on the level and on my mood. Fullscreen is more immersive, and is of course the best mode for levels with a lot of detail. On the other hand, I really enjoy the "tiny little world in a box" feeling of playing in window mode, too.

I suppose you could say it depends on whether, in a given moment, I feel more like entering a level's world, or whether I want to sort of 'play god'. *g* (This doesn't mean I'm playing in god mode; when I cheat - which I do, sometimes - I generally do so by manipulating either the world file or the save file. E.g., in The Core, which was *almost*, but not quite within my capabilities, I just added one stepping block in a particularly large gap in the lava caverns. I generally prefer to keep my cheating as minimal as possible.)

Windowed, because it retains the full quality of the work. Full-screen is just everything stretched to fit the resolution; it doesn't make details, it just makes them bigger....and blurred. I always use windowed. :P2

I prefer playing in fullscreen, but I had to stop doing it after I got my widescreen monitor. It stretches everything out, which I don't like.
I play in fullscreen whenever I can, but most of the time, I'm in windowed mode.

Silly question: Would it be possible to fix the stretch thing with a mod? I noticed none of Niff's more recent games don't do that, like AtSE and R-type almost pi.
(Or maybe they do, and I'm just stupid. :P )

Heh. Guess I'm lucky I don't have a widescreen monitor! No distorting stretching for me! *g*

I almost always play fullscreen. It doesn't distort at all on my monitor.

Check out my tilesets!

I used to play fullscreen most of the time, but now I'm restricted to windowed mode because fullscreen doesn't work properly in WINE.

I play in fullscreen when I have nothing else that needs attending to (usually IRC) running in the background. I personally think it gives a better experience.

Windowed. Fullscreen really screws up the graphics too much for me.
Lurk more.

Windowed, because although maybe the immersion is deeper with fullscreen, it just makes everything fuzzy, which is unpleasant with pixel art.
good bye

Interesting... does it really grow fuzzy for you, as when you enlarge a low-resolution picture? When I go into fullscreen mode in KS, it just enlarges the pixels, but the borders of the pixels remain sharp - nothing gets fuzzy. Or is that what you mean when you say it gets fuzzy?

The borders of the pixels get slightly but noticeably blurred.

It depends on your monitor.  And possibly your desktop resolution.

Like if you happen to have a multiple of 600 width monitor, every pixel will duplicate perfectly.
Lurk more.

Sometimes being oldfashioned and not upgrading your computer very often does have its advantages, I guess. *g*
