Knytt Stories / Re: Juni jumps around in "1001 Spikes" (cameo)
« on: January 27, 2017, 00:28:23 »
I really love the idea of being able to play as Juni on the Nintendo Switch (no matter what game)... I hope she will be included again and that the game will be released in Europe (can't find it anywhere in the German eShop, even though there's a 3DS version).

I loved how your level started out pretty and environmental, became a bit challenging later on, turned a little creepy and finally ended on an emotional note. This constant change of atmosphere was really intriguing.

What I like most about your levels (like "Tower of Joy") is that dream-like, slightly melancholic feeling. I'm looking forward to your next levels!  :)

Thanks for the update, now I finally made it through the hallway, too. Still wondering how it got there in the first place...  8)

Wow, that was creepy!

My expectations were kind of low after the default "Level Start" screen, but your level turned out to be a really great surprise! It felt a bit like a throwback to levels like "The Machine" that made me fall in love with Knytt Stories years ago. I especially enjoyed the beginning - the angular landscape design and your use of water and lava gave those screens a very nice and unique look. Compared to that some of the later areas like the castle in the sky could feel a bit vast and empty at times. I liked how you used background tiles in some of the sky areas to show the player where they were supposed to go - that felt very subtle and natural to me. On the other hand I'm not a big fan of "leaps of faith" as a gameplay mechanic ... as a player you end up climbing every tall structure in the level and jump in every possible direction, which can be a little tiresome. Just like StraightFlame I tricked this toaster and was surprised when there was just a void behind it. I also agree with everyone on here who suggested some intro and outro cutscenes. They would improve your level's narrative structure and atmosphere immensely and would give us players a way bigger sense of accomplishment. I will definitely check out your other levels, great work!  8)

I found this level through the link in your signature and I really enjoyed it. It's one of those fun little adventures that I love Knytt Stories for... I agree that Night City was the visual highlight of this level. It would have been fun to have a little more interaction with the toasts or see what happens once Juni has her high jump back. I know it's been a while, but have you considered making more levels?  8)

A very pretty and fun little level! I loved the music. I also had some trouble finding that one key, but it was actually nice to have a little challenge towards the end. I'm looking forward to that unfinished map of yours!  8)

I really like the concept behind this and some of the areas were very memorable and creepy...

Thanks for the update, can't wait to play this! :)

I already told you how much I liked what I've played so far...

I'm a big Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire fan, so I really liked the inspiration behind your level. The surreal atmosphere reminded me of similar scenes in the books (like Bran's green dream or the House of the Undying). I really enjoyed my playthrough and I might be going back soon to find the secrets.

The linear structure worked well for your kind of level, but sometimes I felt a little trapped and too much "on rails" (like Juni hitting invisible walls at the edge of the screen during the falling sections). I also experienced that running-over-savepoints-thing that Talps described. Apart from that it was a very enjoyable, cohesive level, especially for a first.

I hope to see more from you!  8)

This certainly left an impression, like a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Great job, even though this little level might haunt me in my dreams tonight.

I love the idea of revisiting retro games as Juni! I played your level for a while and I can imagine how much work and effort you put into it. The different backgrounds often looked pretty random, but overall they helped me with keeping my orientation. My biggest problem was that I didn't really know what to do. Was I supposed to get to the end of the level or collect all the coins? Then I reached Level 2 (I think) and ended up feeling even more clueless and lost. Part of the problem is that I don't really know the original game - if this was a homage to Super Mario Bros. or Prince of Persia I would probably understand the concept a lot better... in the end I think this works more as an experiment for Pitfall fans. You know what would be cool? A more accesible, classic Knytt Stories level that's inspired by the spirit of Pitfall instead of being a complete remake. I'd love to play that! :)

Nice to see a new level again, and especially from one of my favorite level builders! It was really fun to play (and I always smile when I see those little barrels in your levels, seems to be some kind of signature thing of you...  ;) )

Knytt Stories / Re: Secret Level Tips
« on: November 24, 2014, 16:49:43 »
I'll mention a couple levels that may be overlooked, or maybe not

Thanks! I especially liked "Acension" because it was really beautiful and a little melancholic.

I like to explore Knytt Stories levels, when I'm in the mood, completely fresh and without any knowledge of them. Sometimes just downloading some of the newest levels uploaded to knyttlevels, the level archive.

I always felt a little overwhelmed by all those levels, but I gave your approach a try and found some great levels like "It's a Jungle Out There" by gamerjc21. So thanks for the tip! :)

Here's some you could play that haven't been mentioned and you might not have heard of

Thanks for all of your recommendations. I really liked "Knytt on the Moon" and "Blue House". I had already played "Rainy Day Adventure", but I also checked out your other levels. "9 days" was beautiful and "Keys to the Asian Market" made me laugh. ;)

THE RECKOMING by Bradf

That level was totally awesome and funny, so thanks for that!

Forgot to mention it before but 'Paradise Last' by Johnny is a superb level despite the comparatively basic graphics. It has one of the best worlds I've seen in a KS level.

I tracked down that level but got stuck in the hotel... I like what I've seen so far but I felt a little lost after a while.

I'm considering making a DX version of 'Eurydice', though it'll be a big job...

I'd love to play that someday! :)

Here are some levels I liked that I don't see recommended often

Thanks for your suggestions! I had played "My Super Secret Basement" before, but got stuck in the ending loop. After reading your post I gave it another try and finally made it through, so thanks for the new motivation. ^^
