As a Knytt Stories player for several years, I want to express my thanks for this greatest platform-explorer to Nifflas and to all those great levelmakers - I had many, many hours of playing fun - thank you so much! Since I can't pay anything, and since the other p(l)ayable games from Nifflas for me are not as good as KS (sorry about that), I want to do some service to the community instead: A list of levels - only the very best levels - wich stayed installed over the time and will stay as my all-time-favourites in my Knytt Stories copy. This could also be a good advice for novices, as this levels also show the qualities and possibilities of KS often better than some short or experimental levels - the problem is, you have to find the good ones, so here you are! Please excuse that I do not have the time to list direct download links, but if you go to the http://www.knyttlevels.com/ archive you should find the most with Ctrl+F. And surely I want you to add some of your absolute favourites, that I haven't discovered yet!!! So here is my list (as they appear in KS program list):

Have much fun!

I'm always grateful for these lists as I never have the time to sift through all the levels to find the good ones myself. Thanks!
-
Agree with Headgrinder. Thank you for your selection!
Also, I am on the list  :'D
-
Yes, thanks for the list, it's pretty impressive. Here are other threads of favorite levels:

There may be even more :P2 It would be very good if they were combined into a single sticky thread.
-
That's not a bad idea though it might be a bit overwhelming. It would help if people offered a comment on each recommendation; just a paragraph maybe, or even a sentence.
-
I guess this would be a good starting point for me if I ever decide to start playing knytt stories. :)
-
If? I can't recommend enough that you do, and soon. Quite seriously, it's one of the most beautifully elegant pieces of game design I've ever seen, let alone played. Consider it a favour to yourself ;)
-
I am going through all of these one by one. Was there only one Sohe and the Rrokked episode made?
-
Yeah, it was unfortunately never finished.
-
I compared the list to Knyttlevels.com. Then, I went and found links to as many of the missing levels as I could:
Afar (Chironex) (http://niffpage.greywool.com/files/Games/ThirdPartyPack1_102.exe) It's part of the Third Party Pack.
Frozen Mountain 2 (Drakkan) (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1735.0)
A Knytt in Time (egomassive) (http://egomassive.com/2009/12/knytt-in-time/)
Shipwrecked (egomassive) (http://egomassive.com/2010/10/shipwrecked/)
Ascension (Farik) (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=425.0)
Chamber of Trails (Fredulom) (http://niffpage.greywool.com/files/Games/ThirdPartyPack1_102.exe) It's part of the Third Party Pack.
Insurance (James Vaughan) (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1075.0)
Luminous City (Jeppo) (http://www.mediafire.com/?vgo57sol7pp638s)
Jerom (Marine) (http://www.cowmuffins.net/stuff/marine.zip)
Plotless (Joshua Green) (http://niffpage.greywool.com/files/Games/ThirdPartyPack1_102.exe) It's part of the Third Party Pack.
An Underwater Adventure (Nifflas) (http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories) It's in the A Strange Dream expansion.
This Level is Unfinished (Nifflas) (http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories) It's in the A Strange Dream expansion.
Above and below... the waterfall (RH) (http://knyttstories.hoelzl.fr/)
My Super Secret Basement (Sergio Cornaga) (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=4071.0)
Blockland (TheoX) (http://niffpage.greywool.com/files/Games/ThirdPartyPack1_102.exe) It's part of the Third Party Pack.
The Little Gothic Doll (Velvet) (http://www.mediafire.com/?yozwgvzxzz1)
These are still missing. If someone could, we have taken up the practice of loading missing levels on the archive before they are lost. I would, but I don't have any of them:
Xeia (Chironex)
Grand Challenge (Introversity)
To Travel so Far (Kalm Traveller)
Tower of Babylon (Mateus Dalmedico Gessoni)
Swept away (Mitch Fletcher)
Shoot For The Moon (Pesty)
Skyfalls (Pip)
Lost in the Labyrinth (Stebbins)
Don't eat Mushrooms (UncleSporky) Is this Don't Eat the Mushroom? If so it's on Knyttlevels.com
Panacea (vdweller)
-
Thankyou for all that work, ego :D
Unfortunately, I don't have any of the ones that're still missing. We might just have to wait, for some of them, until Goog's able to pass on his collection.
-
Unless the person who had them on the original list still has the levels. (I mean solenman, of course.)
-
Thank you egomassive - you rock! Did upload the missing ones. What do you think, should I upload your entire list to knyttlevels.com?
-
Thanks for loading the missing ones. As for loading the others, I guess it really depends on weather they're in jeopardy of being lost. The thing is, once the new archive arrives, I think all the levels will need to be reposted. There's no sense in doing unnecessary work.
Let's see, Jerome (Marine) is just a link on Minmay's personal webspace (Thanks Minmay). It looks like Above and below... the waterfall (RH) is on a site that hasn't been updated since 2007 is very stable and has been recently updated. The rest seem to have stable links.
-
Did load up these both, now all are safe - more or less. When will new archive start?
-
It's a secret to everybody

The Other Side (The Red Shift)
Thanks for the support, solneman; I really appreciate it, but, uh, it would also be nice if you spelled my name right.
Regardless, I think I know which list I'll take a peek at once I feel the urge to play some more Knytt Stories.
-
Another of my favourite levels is incorrectly transcribed up there aswell. Jerom is the author who created a level called Marine, rather than the other way around. He was also responsible for Knytt 8bits which looks absolutely stunning, although it's pitched well beyond my abilities.

Ooops, changed that, sorry!

Sorry, but in KS program level list it's listed this way, whereas in www.knyttlevels.com it's listed correctly. So I changed it here, but Jerom has to modify his file to correct this in the KS program listing... but perhaps he has done with a later version than mine... I did not update all my level files over the time.
-
Ah, I'm sorry. I've tweaked so many world.ini files in my collection I've lost track of which ones are original.
-
RH wasn't pleased with our uploading his level without asking first. J was good enough to remove the level from Knyttlevels for us. RH has a new website now and Above and Below the Waterfall is available there. I updated the link in my list above.
In the future we should try to contact authors before uploading their work to the archive.
-
Camping by Farik and LG-28 by Medic Ted are very beautiful environmental levels. I don't think anyone who like ks should miss out on them.

I don't think this is an option. Just imagine doing this when goog's archive is (hopefully) transferred :P2. If a level is available on author's website, then contacting him would be right, but in other cases it's too much. When the new archive is out, this shouldn't be a problem at all, because the link to the site can be added to the description.
