Of course it isn't. I'm glad this pack is still alive after all this time!

[04\08\13]: Given that TheYeIIowDuck hasn't logged on for half a year, would anyone object if I created a new version of this thread? (something like an Epic Old Knytt Stories Levels Dump Redux) In addition to having the content lists readily apparent and accessible, I could add a brief introduction explaining the use of .torrent files (with a more detailed guide in a spoiler, should that prove necessary). I would, of course, make sure to credit TheYeIIowDuck with all the work on the .torrent (and include links to the OT) and the respective authors with all the levels.

I love it how this thread is still alive even after 2 years, and now someone is remixing it.

Who would've thought my level collection would attract so much attention. I think I'll redownload it myself now, because I think I unfortunately lost it. Some levels there date as far back as 2009-2010!

Ahhh Knytt Stories.... Play once, play for life. Amazing how I still periodically check on this game every year or so.

Knytt Stories Level Releases / Re: New Level "The Extinct Bird"
« on: October 14, 2011, 22:23:05 »
A fairly good level. I liked the artstyle, and the custom objects were well animated. The running bird that fled from you every so many screens was an original and awesome idea. The music fitting well with the level. It's such a shame that the level's design is mediocre quality. Lots of "cheap shots" such as flat walls and nearly-empty screens waste the tilesets' potential. On top of that, the level was too easy and you 'gave away' power ups too early and too frequently.

I have to ask you something though, does the level has only one ending? On my way to the end, I stumbled across several side-paths I didn't take. Either your level has more than one ending, or all of them were dead-ends and I just was lucky enough to always take the right path.

Shameless repost?

I remember this level though. I hated it. It was waaaay too hard for my. I just gave up in the desert part.

Just checked. I'm currently seeding. Expect nice download speeds of approx. 300 kB/s or maybe higher, depending on the time of the day. (I raise the speeds at nights since I'm not using my connection then; goes up to 750kB/s :) )
So...
Should I turn of the "initial seeding" option now?

7
I've started the download, and since I have a 10 mbit up connection, I'll continue to seed this for a while. :)

EDIT: I still have 0%, so we'll have to wait for TheYeIIowDuck to seed some more :)
I seriously have no idea why.
My uTorrent is up and the torrent is force initial-seeding with all other torrents stopped :/

I have a large collection of old Knytt Stories levels I've gathered over the years. Some date as far back as the old forums era. I've decided to create a torrent with all these levels on it. Feel free to download it and try them out yourself.

Note: I've been suffering from a bad case of shiternet over the last month, so expect inconsistency in the downloading process. Also note that I am using an ADSL connection and it might be slow at times.

I'll try my best to keep uTorrent up at nights. Although I can't promise anything beyond that, I assure you that I will not close the torrent before 1.2GB were uploaded. This torrent can and will stay alive as long as other people will seed it, so, for the love of god,
SEED!

If you have any kind of a decent torrent program, it should display a ratio for each torrent. If it doesn't, simply calculate it yourself: Divide how much you've uploaded by how much you've downloaded. Is the result lower than 2? Keep on seeding!

Here is the download link to the .torrent file. If you don't know how to download torrents - shame on you! Search Google for the answer.

Knytt Stories Level Previews / [Challenge][???]Knytt Lab #076
« on: June 29, 2011, 06:40:21 »
So here's the story: Usually, I'm against level previews. They tend to work the same way as game trailers, for the bad and for the good. But this time, I am going for over a month, which means I won't be able to work further on this level for a while. That also means that I can't reply to whatever you write to me in this thread. I am going in less then three hours.
ANYWAY
Knytt Level #076 started out as a small experiment to see how do some Knytt Stories concepts I had in mind work. I've made a custom, VERY basic tileset and started playing around with the mechanics. This turned out to be a very fun level to play and create. I decided to start over with a fresh level and a fresh storyline inspired by the first level in Half Life 1.
The result is Knytt Lab #076.
It is nowhere near done yet, but that's, for once, not because of my laziness. Knytt Lab #076 is intended to be a meta-level with at least a full hour of gameplay. It'll be the home of many tiny levels I've made and never published (including the original Knytt Lab #076 I've described in the previous paragraph).

Well, off to the screenshots and download:

Obviously, since this level is composed of both pre-made old levels of mine and newly made screens created just for Knytt Level #076, the quality of the environments may vary throughout the level.
I have no idea how big this level will be. I plan to have at least 6 "courses", with a 7th one as an ending to the level. Right now I've only finished most of the lab and about 80% of the first course, and it's already big enough to be considered as at least "medium". Wish me luck!

[mod]Download link removed, since Level Previews can't have that. Only concept/screenshots belong here; playable levels can be shown only in the Level Release category.[/mod]

Please note: I will bump this thread up in a month or so. Please don't ban me or something for that, considering the circumstances.

Sorry to be such a buzzkiller, but I don't see why is this level considered as "good". It is "decent" at best. It's just a linear walk through several screens.
I know that's the point of environmental levels, but Ayo isn't even interesting to look at. The first and last few levels are totally bland, and while the "cave" screens look nicer compared to the rest of the level, I really don't see a reason to create a whole level just to showcase them.

@TheYeIIowDucK
I can agree with the desert area. I guess I didn't notice the lack of saves while testing it myself. I became so used to the positions of the cacti that I didn't have a problem avoiding them after the 100th time. I didn't have anyone else beta test for me really.

About the app's palette criticism, I don't really think its a fair criticism. I have the impression that you didn't really give it more than a passing glance.

If you click the 'Current Color' box, it brings up the standard Windows custom-color picker, giving you the standard 16 million color options. You aren't limited to the pre-set palettes, you are limited to 16 million colors like any high end graphics editor. The 'Read Me.txt' also says that the palettes are easily inter-changeable -- they are just small png files, so you can easily create your own if you don't like them. And if you can't be bothered to make your own, you can download millions more palettes via this wonderful website here (which is where most of them are from): http://www.colourlovers.com/palettes

I've designed it so that you can just drag-n-drop any image files into the palettes folder for expandability. So I don't really think there is a problem with the palette feature at all. Most programs don't even include a large palette like this. Its just as capable as any other graphics editor. I'd actually say its Pix Army Knifes strongest suit.

Well, you are right to say I only gave it a glance, because that's exactly what I did. I opened the software, created a tile or two and closed it. I don't have any tiles I need to make right now (all the tilesets for my next project are already finished) so I didn't have a good way to test Pix Army Knife.
I am, however, aware of the standard Windows color-choosing window built into the program.

Reading my own comment about the subject, I must admit that I've phrased it too harshly. The thing about the palettes was only a suggestion, not an actual downside to the program. It's just that the idea of themed palette charmed me, and the potential of that idea as opposed to the lack of colors in the shipped palettes was too great.
Thank you for the site though, I think that Pix Army Knife would benefit a lot from having a link to it (In a "Want more free palettes? Click here!" sense).

Just finished it. Great level! I still haven't found the secret ending though... Not even in the level editor
Anyway, this is a great artistic level. I always was fond of floating islands, and this level shows everyone how a floating island should be done.
But, as pretty as this level is, it doesn't play well. First of, I wouldn't classify it as an environmental level. Although easy, Another Strange Dream has some challenges in it (specifically - the umbrella tunnel inside the island's "sewers").
Also, I'm with Talps on the music and desert subjects. This level lacks music; and even if it was designed to be silent, it would have benefited a lot from some background songs. The desert should have at least one more save point. I died in it 4 times and it's horribly frustrating to run back three screens just to die again from a different cactus in the next one.
Still, with these issues aside, Another Strange Dream is a great Knytt Stories level. I would rather not call it a sequel to "A Strange Dream", as it has very little connection to Nifflas' great exploration level, and your level differs a lot from it (both in the art style and the gameplay style).

Seeing as this level (and this entire thread) is just a way to promote you pixel editing program I will criticize it too.
I've played around Pix Army Knife for a while. It's a nice program, and while I wouldn't use it for "regular" Knytt Stories design (creating whole tilesets) its simplicity and easiness of use make it a perfect program to be used alongside with Paint.NET or something like that. One major criticism I find in it are the palettes which come with it. I love the idea of pre-made palettes, each designed for a specific "mood" or "environment", but the low quantity of palettes coming with the program and their low quality are just a turn off.
For the program's next version I suggest adding more palettes and adding more colors to the existing ones.

Oh god.
I really hope this level wasn't meant to be taken seriously. It looks just awful, there are more wall-swims than actual challenges. Throughout the level I've found places where you can fall off the playing zone. This is Knytt Stories at its worst form. If there was any kind of satirical or parodical message behind this horrible level, I wasn't able to find it.
Final score: 1/10
Yeah, like I said, I made it in my spare time, I didn't even bother to playtest it. It was more of a joke then anything. If you really want a level made by me, I'm making a WAY better one right now, and I have another one named ZRWLFHTVLI that's out. I hope you like my upcoming level.
To be honest you shouldn't have even uploaded it. It's a waste of your time and ours. I don't want to sound like some twat from Youtube or anything, but I really do want 3 minutes of my life back.

Gosh... This level is so familiar... I'm not sure, but I suspect I've played it before.
Anyway, it is a great level. Very old-school style. Just something I'd expect from Knytt Stories' earlier days.
That, of course, means that there are many frustrations like in the early days. Part of this might be the old approach of "challenge" (Simply random scattering enemies throughout the level even when the obstacle is tough enough).
