Hey, I just downloaded KS+ and gave this a try. Fun level! Really like what you did with the narrative. :)

I did notice one minor typo:

Overall, great stuff! Glad to see people still making quality KS levels like this one after so many years. :)

Affordable Space Adventures / Re: About the game

I own a Wii U, but there are basically no great console-specific games for it at the moment... just potentially great games in the works. I am pleasantly surprised to see Nifflas working on a game for this console! :)

Has it been decided what format this game is going to be sold in? For instance, a $50-$60 game on a disc, or a download on the virtual shop? Or has that been decided yet? (Or is it still a secret? :P)

Because this topic is up again, I want to say, that I love seabed museum. I think it's one of the most funny ideas in KS. I hope you won't feel offended or something, if I release an old level of mine, that uses similar idea.

Thanks, glad you liked it! :)

It's fine with me if you made a level based off of mine. Actually, that sounds pretty neat! Is is Secret Agent Juni over in the preview section?

Little bump on this one, but one of the most intense levels I played. I loved it, just wanna let you know that you left me with a good feeling  C)p

Awesome, thanks for letting me know! I couldn't ask for more than giving someone an enjoyable experience! :)

This doesn't seem to work for me with KS version 1.2.1 (the current official version). Once I install the level and try to play, the game notifies me that I need a new version of KS.

Was this level made with one of the KS mods?

Ah, thank you Sergio! That is pretty handy, partly because it lets me see what songs Farik has used, and partly because it shows what songs he hasn't used.  I want to avoid re-using songs so his levels keep their distinct feel to them.

Truth be told, I haven't selected too many other sounds to use from ERH just yet, but there are a few more I have selected that I plan on using fairly early on in the level. I will keep them under wraps for now, but they should be available when I release an updated version on KS Levels. :)

Welp, it has been over two years since anyone has asked about this, but I felt like posting back here. I'm pretty busy with college and whatnot, so I may not ever finish this level entirely, but I think I would at least like to make some more progress.

I was scouring around for some more source material for inspiration, and I noticed that one of my favorite level designers, Farik, had used sounds and music from ERH of freesoundproject.org. ERH had about 90 pages worth of uploaded files, most of which were artistic and interesting, though useless from a game-designing perspective (15 pages of audio recordings from a train station anyone?). However, I was eventually able to sift through the audio and find some very well composed pieces of strange, slightly off-putting music which would be perfect for what I have in mind.

To list a few that I plan to use:

-Atmosphere 2
-Eh struuct multi
-Eastern

...Just listening to these have helped me to decide where I want the level to go, so I will do my best to make some headway and keep you all up to date whenever I have news to report. :)

Just finished the level. Pretty fun! The challenges were fairly varied and enjoyable for the most part, particularly a few instances involving shifts that suddenly presented Juni with immediate danger with juuusssst enough time to react. That's much more fun than having an impossibly short time to react and passing on the second attempt, so kudos there. :)

A few things that could stand addressing, though...

Other than that, the level was pretty fun! Looking forward to future installments to get a bit more closure on the story. :)

In other news, I can't fit any more levels in my signature and I'm at a loss as to how to solve this dilemma.

Just show the newest levels?

Hey hey, long time no see! :)

Sorry for the necro, but here's the scoop. I'm trying to get in the mood to finish the environmental level I started a few years ago, but I haven't touched KS in quite a while. So, in an attempt to get a feel for KS again, I decided to go back and tweak The Great Race for what will hopefully be the last time.

Changes are minor for the most part, but a TON of typos in the dialog have been corrected, SGEs pointed out have been dealt with, and I've adjusted the difficulty on a few screens based on feedback from players. I also added a warp to the beginning of the JCN gauntlet to prevent an awkward change in tone from lethality to hospitality when backtracking.

In other words... just polish. But whether you've played the level before or are hearing about it for the first time, I hope you will enjoy the effort I've put into it. Download link is on the first page. Have fun! :D

Knytt Stories / Re: Levels, that use advanced CO's.

Camping by Farik had some pretty nice CO's, but I can't seem to find a link to it.
Apocolyptic City was an environmental level I started way back when with a healthy amount of CO's in the first few screens. Still tinkering with it on occasion.

Granted! Your classmates now play Minecraft. However, they somehow found a way to reprogram their Runescape bots to play Minecraft for them. Every time you join an online server, their bots automatically collect all valuable resources in the most efficient way possible, leaving you nothing.

I wish to do well on my final exams this week.

Nifflas' Sources / Re: egomassive's Knytt Stories mod

Nice work! Lots of useful little additions there, particularly the on-screen sign editor and the preview of adjacent tiles. :)

Is there a possibility of viewing the diagonally-adjacent tiles as well? I realize that would require changing the way your editor looks now, but that might be a handy option to include if you get the time.

If you still need help, sign me up! :D

Knytt Stories Involvement
-Active since release
-Played and completed all official levels and very many community ones
-Able to beat levels of just about any difficulty given the time
-Created The Great Race, which was on several players favorite levels lists (yay!), as well as some other small levels
-Created several tilesets
-Tampered with nearly all aspects of the level editor including custom objects

Other points of interest
-Have been following Nifflas with interest ever since the release of Within a Deep Forest
-As a result of the above point, have been looking for ways to get involved with community projects
-Summer vacation starts in three weeks which will give me plenty of time to help
-Affinity for nitpicking mistakes in games (even the games I really like!) out of an interest to improve said games

Thanks for your time and good luck on the project!

Just to post my two cents...

I had been a Nifflas fan ever since I stumbled upon Within a Deep Forest shortly after its release. I didn't actually discover the Nifflas Support Forum until Knytt Stories came out, and I assume it was the same for a lot of other people.

Because of the success and popularity of Knytt Stories when the editor first came out, there was a lot of activity and a lot of new people showed up. Tons of levels with new concepts came out, and they were generally entertaining. There was almost a sense of friendly competition going around, people trying to out-do each other and make the best levels with original concepts and content. I got in on the action because I had played a lot of really well done levels and they inspired me to create The Great Race, which was received pretty well and earned some positive feedback which I absolutely loved. It was just all-around a very active and enjoyable time.

But of course, things are only new for so long. Knytt Stories lost a lot of its momentum, though new levels are still released to this day which I find pretty impressive. I think that, although Knytt Stories still has nearly limitless potential to explore some fresh concepts for levels, the hype has died down with the passage of time (and with the crash of the old forum, which was unfortunate to say the least). And with a lower level of activity, there's a bit less incentive to create new levels since there's a feeling that less people will probably see them. I've been working off and on on an environmental level, and sometimes I will make some progress since a few people will still probably see it and like it, but I know it is highly unlikely to receive the warm feeling of releasing a new level "back in the day" when you could post your level before going to bed and wake up to literally dozens of comments.

Knytt Stories isn't the only Nifflas game out there to discuss on the Nifflas Support Forum, after all, but it was by far the game that did the best job of pulling people together to discuss and create some truly inspiring stuff. As a Nifflas fan, I can say with certainty that this forum will last a long time due to the outstanding quality of material Nifflas continues to produce, but unless another game comes out that pulls the community together as much as Knytt Stories does, we can probably expect the forum to have the activity level it does now.

Knytt Stories Level Releases / [Environmental][Easy]Cavern
« on: October 17, 2011, 02:32:12 »
I just remembered this level wasn't available for download since the old forums crashed, so here's a re-upload!

It's a simple out-and-back quest meant to show off some unconventional terrain. The original ground tileset was made by Azu, I just remixed it for this level. Music is "Dolphin's Intrigue" by Tim Follin, taken from Sega's "Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future."

Enjoy! :)
